113 The Paleo Movement with Michelle & Keith Norris

Posted in health, fitness, fat loss, sugar, paleo, diet, primal, strength training, stress, exercise, movement, Vitamin D, evolution by smashthefat on March 25th, 2015

Together, Keith and Michelle form the dynamic duo of practical Ancestral Wellness; harnessing theory, and putting that theory to work in everyday practice. Effective and efficient exercise, coupled with proper nutrition, and intelligent "hacks" form the solid base upon which true and lasting health and wellness emerge. Keith's and Michelle's vision for Paleo f(x)™ is best demonstrated in their motto: heal thyself, harden thyself, change the world. Their desire is that you learn how your stone age genetics can be unleashed and coaxed to thrive — without having to sacrifice the “benefits of modernity” — in today’s, fast paced and hectic world.

110 Run On Fat with Donal O’Neill

00:0000:00
Run On Fat charts world class triathlete Sami Inkinen’s transition from pre-diabetic sugar burner to a faster, healthier, fat fueled endurance athlete under the guidance of New York Times best-selling author Dr Stephen Phinney. When Sami embarks on an epic anti sugar crusade with his wife Meredith – rowing 4,000 kms unsupported from California to Hawaii – their remarkable journey reveals the astonishing performance benefits and pitfalls of successful fat fueling strategies for athletic performance. As more and more evidence emerges of world class athletes adopting a similar protocol – with remarkable results in some cases – “Run on Fat” challenges the very foundations of sports nutrition.

104 The Medicinal Chef with Dale Pinnock

Posted in health, low carb, diabetes, diet, heart disease, saturated fat, cholesterol, stress, lchf by smashthefat on January 26th, 2015

00:0000:00
After completing his undergraduate studies, Dale is now pursuing his post graduate career, undertaking a Masters Degree qualification, in Nutritional Medicine at the University of Surrey - one of the most highly respected, evidence based Nutrition post graduate courses available. Whilst studying he also worked as a whole foods chef. This combined experience has led to him working in the way that he does. He wears many hats at once, and delivers the full spectrum of his expertise, in order to guide the public towards a healthier life, and more informed choices. Dale is very much of the belief that diet and lifestyle offers some fantastic opportunities for individuals to take elements of their own healthcare into their own hands. At the same time, he is acutely aware that there is a lot of quackery and fairy tales in this field. It is his mission to be vocal and passionate about what works, and why, and to weed out that which is nothing more than science fiction, to give you, the people who need this information the most, the real picture.

098 Man v Fat: The Weight Loss Manual with Andrew Shanahan

Posted in health, fat loss, low carb, paleo, calories, sport, diet, men's health, strength training, stress, exercise by smashthefat on January 5th, 2015

00:0000:00
From his work writing about food for The Guardian and being named one of the country's best restaurant critics by the Independent on Sunday weight has always been an issue. The recent experience of losing a lot of weight left him stunned about how little help is directed at men who are dieting. Consequently, his new project - http://www.manvfat.com - has been launched to help normal blokes who simply want to win their own battle with fat. Launched after a successful crowd funding campaign which drew support from Jamie Oliver amongst others, Man V Fat seeks to inspire, motivate and educate men. His hobbies include writing in the third person and ruthless self-aggrandisement.

091 Getting Focused with Alessandra Wall PhD

Posted in health, fitness, low carb, paleo, diet, primal, stress, psychology, lchf, addiction by smashthefat on November 5th, 2014

00:0000:00
Alessandra obtained her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a focus in child and adolescent psychology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas. In addition to being a practising psychotherapist she also holds a Level One CrossFit certificate, and is the Nutrition and Lifestyle Coach and Executive Director at CrossFit Elysium in North Park. In her original psychotherapy practice she worked daily with people to identify needs, improve self-care and manage stress, yet she was not using these same skills in her own life. She set out to restore balance in her world. It took time, by identifying needs, priorities and values that she wanted to have in her life. She had to figure out why she was not doing all the things she knew would make her happier and feel better. Bridging the gap between knowledge and action to develop a realistic plan of action was the key to balance and happiness for her. In Alessandra's own words "Creating change is an ongoing process that requires effort, mindful dedication and awareness".
