110 Run On Fat with Donal O’Neill

00:0000:00
Run On Fat charts world class triathlete Sami Inkinen’s transition from pre-diabetic sugar burner to a faster, healthier, fat fueled endurance athlete under the guidance of New York Times best-selling author Dr Stephen Phinney. When Sami embarks on an epic anti sugar crusade with his wife Meredith – rowing 4,000 kms unsupported from California to Hawaii – their remarkable journey reveals the astonishing performance benefits and pitfalls of successful fat fueling strategies for athletic performance. As more and more evidence emerges of world class athletes adopting a similar protocol – with remarkable results in some cases – “Run on Fat” challenges the very foundations of sports nutrition.

Dr. Runyan is a physician in private practice in St. Petersburg, Florida, who specializes in internal medicine, nephrology, and obesity medicine. He practised emergency medicine for ten years before starting his private practice in 2001. In 1998, he developed type 1 diabetes at the age of thirty-eight. Although, his diabetes was fairly well controlled with intensive insulin therapy, he was plagued with frequent hypoglycemic episodes. In 2011, while training for an Ironman-distance triathlon, Dr. Runyan was looking for a better way to treat his diabetes and perform endurance exercise, and he decided to give the low-carb, high-fat, ketogenic diet a try. In February 2012, he began the diet for the treatment of is diabetes and learned that this diet was also effective for the treatment of numerous other conditions, including obesity. He added obesity medicine to his practice and became board-certified in obesity medicine in December 2012. Dr. Runyan completed an Ironman-distance triathlon on October 20, 2012, in a state of nutritional ketosis and feeling great.

043 Lift The Lid On Bowel Cancer with Ben Ashworth

Posted in health, fitness, fat loss, low carb, ketogenic diet, endurance, sugar, diet, cancer, running, marathon by smashthefat on May 16th, 2014

00:0000:00

Ben is a bowel cancer patient with a seriously positive attitude! Technically he has terminal cancer (his cancer can't be cured) but his current treatment is working and is surprised at how much he can do. Especially as he is in the process of running 6 marathons in 6 months, with 1 down and 5 to go, in order to show his 3 daughters that his positive spirit has endured and that illness won't get in the way of living his life. Through Ben's Bowel Movements, as he's aptly called his running challenge, he is promoting Beating Bowel Cancer's campaign Lift The Lid which is about raising awareness of the symptoms of the second biggest cancer killer. Feel free to donate what you can to Ben's Bowel Movements by clicking the link below
